Meet the 2010 REAL HEROES PDF Print E-mail

The American Red Cross Silicon Valley Chapter was proud to honor the following local heroes who were nominated by the public, selected by a group of community leaders and embody the principles and ideals of the Red Cross’ humanitarian mission.

  • Animal Rescue Hero – Delta, a canine companion therapy dog who assists children participating in therapeutic and educational activities at Scribble and Giggles Pediatric Day Health Center in Saratoga. <<Watch her story>>
  • Good Samaritan Hero – Evan Carlton, who on March 19, 2009 cared enough to save a dying stranger by performing CPR on a gentleman who collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest at the train station in Downtown San Jose after a San Jose Sharks game. <<Watch his story>>
  • Professional Rescue Hero – Paula Reed, RN, OCN and Director of Oncology and Infusion Services for Palo Alto Medical Foundation for her dedication to providing relief to victims of medical disasters and her commitment to alleviate human suffering. <<Watch her story>>
  • Workplace Hero – Sarah Wedel and Marie Pinder instructors from Covington School in Los Altos who immediately began CPR and dispatched someone to call 911 when an 11-year-old student suddenly collapsed on campus in August 2009.  The student made a complete recovery. <<Watch their story>>
  • Most Prepared Company – Intel Corporation, a global company headquartered in Santa Clara County, that has developed a well-planned, defined, and easy to implement emergency response program for its over 80,000 employees. . <<Watch their story>>
  • Most Prepared City – City of Morgan Hill for the extraordinary efforts undertaken in 2009 to ensure residents were prepared for disaster with a comprehensive municipal response plan. . <<Watch their story>>
