Distance/Blended Learning

In keeping with today's fast-paced information age, the American Red Cross has developed the Blended Learning First Aid/CPR/AED Program — a new way to offer Red Cross First Aid, Adult CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training ONLINE.

Red Cross Blended Learning is flexible and self-paced and best of all, it is available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Course-takers have the option of going through the lessons in full or abbreviated form and can test out of lessons as well.  Web-based training enables course-takers to access courses at their convenience.

The first portion of the training is completed online, so each course participant can take the training from most computers meeting the minimum operating system requirements:

  • Operating Systems: Windows 2000, XP or Vista
  • Internet Browsers: Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Firefox 2.0 or higher.  Please ensure that you turn off all pop-up blockers before starting your class.

For the second part of the training, a Red Cross instructor conducts a skills session where participants' skills are practiced and assessed.  In order to be eligible to participate in the skills segment of the class students must successfully complete all sections of the web-based segment including the final exam prior to participating in the skills segment of the class. Students must bring a copy of their completion certificate from the web-based segment to the skills session. Attendance at the skills session is mandatory in order to receive certificates.
